Abkhazia Sets Early June as Official Start of Tourist Season

The Republic of Abkhazia will officially launch its summer tourist season in early June, according to Minister of Tourism Astamur Logua. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Logua confirmed that preparations are already underway across the region.

Teams from various ministries, district administrations, and tourism businesses are currently cleaning up public spaces, sprucing up beaches, and repairing roads, utilities, and visitor attractions. Restoration work on historic and cultural sites is also continuing.

“The official opening of the resort season is planned for early June, after we finish all the necessary prep work,” Logua said. But he emphasized that the government’s main priority is making sure every part of the tourism infrastructure is fully ready—not just hitting a specific date.

Abkhazia sits on the Black Sea coast in the northwestern part of the South Caucasus. It is divided into seven districts—Gagra, Sukhumi, Ochamchira, Gali, Tkvarcheli, Gudauta, and Gulrypsh—plus the capital city of Sukhumi. Popular spots include Lake Ritsa, the New Athos Cave, Gegsky Waterfall, Sukhumi Botanical Garden, the New Athos Monastery, Anacopia Fortress, and Stalin’s dacha in Myussera.

Travelers planning a visit this summer can expect a well-prepared coastline and a range of natural and historical attractions ready to welcome them.
