A Slice of Home in Russia: Dutch Travel Blogger Enchanted by Svetlogorsk

Machiel Sneep, a Dutch travel blogger living in Russia, has fallen under the charm of Svetlogorsk, a picturesque town in the Kaliningrad region. In his personal blog, 'A Dutchman in Russia', Sneep shared his delightful experiences, describing the town's atmosphere as 'like home'. What struck him most was the excellent cycling infrastructure, reminiscent of his native Netherlands. Sneep and his family rented bikes and set out to explore the town, reveling in the joy of riding along the seaside road, surrounded by tall pine trees and minimal traffic. The abundance of greenery in Svetlogorsk also left him in awe, with houses seemingly built around trees, preserving their natural beauty. Sneep was particularly fond of the town's early 20th-century architecture, which has been well-preserved. He likened some buildings to fairy-tale cottages, while others resembled luxurious forest villas. The blogger confessed that he would happily return to Svetlogorsk time and again, despite having seen similar attractions elsewhere. 'There's something special about this place that makes me feel so at ease,' he mused. This is not the first time Sneep has been impressed by a Russian city - he previously visited St. Petersburg in winter, describing it as 'regal and majestic'.
