A Russian Traveler’s Honest Take on Mexico: ‘Obesity Is a Huge Problem’

Marina Yershova, a Russian travel blogger, recently visited Mexico and shared her candid impressions of the country’s population, particularly its women. In a post on the platform Dzen, she described Mexico with a blunt observation: “Obesity is a huge problem.” Her remarks have sparked conversation among her followers about health, culture, and body image south of the border.
Yershova noted that Mexicans consume large amounts of soda, fatty foods, and meat, a trend that has local doctors sounding alarms. Yet what struck her most was how people—even those carrying extra weight—live life without shame. “They dance. They laugh. They go to parties every Sunday. They take photos. They wear swimsuits. They live,” she wrote, painting a picture of a society that embraces joy over self-consciousness.
This isn’t the first time Yershova has turned heads with her travel takes. She previously made waves by stating that three popular Russian products—including chocolate—have become “luxury items” in Mexico, admitting she missed them during her trip. Her unfiltered style continues to draw both praise and criticism, but she remains unapologetic about describing what she sees.
