A Luggage Scare at Perth Airport Leads to Criminal Charges

A busy day at Perth Airport turned chaotic on April 22 when a man abandoned his backpack in the terminal and disappeared. The unattended bag triggered a security alert, forcing police to call in bomb disposal teams. The terminal was cordoned off, causing hundreds of flight delays and stranding thousands of passengers. Travelers arriving at the airport were stuck on the tarmac, while others faced long check-in lines. Many missed connecting flights as the situation unfolded. After examining the backpack, officers arrested 57-year-old Kieron Bo James Hedges in the city center. He was charged with spreading false information that could be seen as a threat to a federal airport. Police have not disclosed what was inside the bag. Hedges appeared in court on April 23, and the case remains under review pending a final verdict. In a separate incident, a furious traveler grabbed an airport employee by the hair and slammed his head against a door after failing to find his own backpack, blaming the worker for the theft.
