A Bite of Street Food in Pattaya Nearly Cost a Russian Tourist His Life

A routine evening of grilled chicken wings on Pattaya’s Walking Street turned into a nightmare for a Moscow man named Dmitry. According to the Telegram channel Mash, he and his wife ordered spicy wings from a street vendor. Within hours, Dmitry was hit with severe diarrhea, nausea, and muscle cramps. He tried treating himself with medicine from his travel kit, but his condition only worsened over the next two days.

When he finally arrived at Thai International Hospital, things took a terrifying turn. His heart stopped, and medical staff spent nearly an hour resuscitating him. He was then placed on a ventilator for an extended period. Miraculously, Dmitry has since regained consciousness and is breathing on his own. However, the ordeal has left him with short-term memory loss. An MRI showed no permanent brain damage.

Dmitry now faces a long road to recovery. He cannot fly home without a medical escort—a process his insurance company is currently arranging. Before the incident, he worked in Moscow as an independent expert investigating emergencies. That career is now uncertain. This case follows a recent mass food poisoning at the MBC Condotel in Thailand, where 13 Russian guests were diagnosed with intestinal infections and conjunctivitis.
